Update 1/12/14 – Mandela Celebration Film now online

We had a great night last night at our bike-powered film screening. It was fantastic to see the films, which documented the excitement of the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival and our Mandela Celebration, and in the case of the Commonwealth Youth Dance film, to be reminded of sunny summer weather!

Many thanks to the young film-makers, our volunteers, and everyone who came along for the screening, discussion, and delicious food. For those of you who couldn’t make it along, we’ll be uploading the films to our website next month. Keep your eyes peeled!

The Hidden Gardens Mandela Celebration on Saturday 19th July (12pm-4pm) is gathering momentum! Twenty organisations have been inspired to take part, contributing a diverse and lively range of activity including arts and crafts tables, dance performance, singing workshop, discussions, upcycling workshop, storytelling, music and delicious food to taste.

The event will shine a light on volunteering in our local community, showcasing the different ways people give their time in support of their community. We hope it will inspire more people to pledge their time to contribute to the fantastic work already being done.

We’re delighted to be one of a select few venues across the city to be hosting a Ceilidh Comhla event.

This event returns to the traditions of a Gaelic ceilidh, a gathering of friends with storytelling, song and dance.

Over an evening, artists from a range of cultural and artistic backgrounds will perform as everyone comes together to celebrate Scotland’s diverse communities.

An evening of fun, dancing and community spirit, suitable for the whole family.

Part of the Commonwealth Culture 2014 programme.

Friday 23 May 2014; 6pm-8pm

Ceilidh Comhla at The Hidden Gardens is free but ticketed. To reserve your place, please email administrator@thehiddengardens.org.uk

All welcome!

We’re going Round in Circles with Glasgow Museums

This Saturday 30th November we’re taking part in Glasgow Museums‘ Round in Circles. It’s a celebration of the best (and only) circular train line, the Cathcart Circle. It’s going to be a fascinating day, with activities at Pollokshields East, Maxwell Park and Cathcart station. Maybe we’re biased, but we think Pollokshields East is going to be the best.

We’ll be there from 10.30, and hope you can join us. If only to get the first look at our snazzy new kiosk!
